"Juno and her pups"
Juno was found on a country road pregnant & abandoned 11-26-08. We took her to our vet where she gave birth to 8 pups on 12-11-08. Precious, not pictured, lived only 3 days. I kept her in a pouch around my neck so she was warm against my chest & bottle fed her. It broke my heart to lose her & we have buried her in our garden.
Juno (from the movie) is a pup herself! She is less than a yr. old, a brindle Boston Terrier mix, apprx. 17 lbs & 12-13" tall, has been vacc., wormed, HWNeg, & on monthly Revolution. Her pups are healthy, happy, & social. They will be 6 wks. old 1-22-09 & receive their 1st vacc. & monthly Revolution. They have already been treated for hooks, rounds, & ringworm. I worry a lot so preventative is a great measure. The pups eat Science Diet pup (small bites) & drink water ~ when not dunking each other in the water bowls!
The GIRLS; Miss Piggy, Mz. Piggy2, Speckles, JJ (Juno Jr.), Boston ~ BOYS; Rex & Astro. Astro has brindle-colored legs & a black body...unique. Anyway, they are looking for good homes for a lifetime of family love.
January 28, 2009 Update!
Juno & her pup, Boston (F), were just adopted. We are down to 6 pups, males; Astro & Rex, females; Miss Piggy, Miz Piggy2, JJ (Juno, Jr.), & Speckles.
February 4, 2009 Update!
The pups will be 8 wks. old tomorrow, 2-5-09. They receive their 2nd pup vacc. All spent the day outdoor on 1-31-09 for the first time & loved it. When recess was over, they collapsed in their crate for a long nights sleep! They have been bathed 2X w/o problems toward water, take medication well (during worming), sing with me while I am sanitizing, or maybe my singing hurts their ears!! Wonderful lil' beings.
The black pup is becoming more color dominate with brindle jawline & legs. He is also the biggest of the bunch, with the fawn F closing in tightly.
March 13, 2009 Update!
The pups have been placed by a Boston Terrier Rescue group and Juno has been adopted!

"Dink"
|
Dink is a 3 year old red merle male. He has been neutered and is current on all
vaccinations. He is being surrended by his family
because he has some stranger anxiety from his early life. Here is what
his family says about Dink:
Dink is housebroken. In his last obdience
class the instructor we had said he has 'stranger anxiety'. For his
first two years he was tied up outside on a chain before we got him from
the humane society. So although he is three, he has had barely a year of
learning to be comfortable out in public. His reaction is to whine and
whimper if he is around other dogs or large crowds of people (we tried
taking him to a parade with our other Aussie once). Generally as long as
he is comfortable in his surroundings (i.e., our house or yard,
relatives' or friends' houses where we are often) he is the perfect dog.
Honestly if we weren't trying to use him in 4-H (unfamiliar
surroundings, lots of 'stranger dogs') we would not be willing to let
him go. Our family is quite attached to him.
We have never been in a
situation where we feel it is best for the dog to be with a different
family. Dink always prefers to be where his people are; he is a typical
velcro Aussie. During the day he moves from room to room to follow the
activity. At night he wants to stay in the family room as long as there
are people awake. He sleeps on the bed with our son (so is good with
kids), but has slept in the room with my wife and I and will stay off
the bed if told to.
Activity wise, he is completely Frisbee and ball
crazy. Tennis balls, soccer balls, anything at all that he can chase.
Frisbees are one of his favorites; he likes being able to grab it out of
the air. I think he is extremely fast, but I don't have much experience
with competitve events to compare it to. We have not had him groomed at
all in the year we have had him. He coat is fairly fine and seems to
grow to the perfect length and just stop.
Contact the owners directly with inquiries about Dink; he currently
lives in Wapello: Ed Mears, cell 815-441-5017, email

"Sadie"

Hello from Sadie!
Hello from Sadie! Sadie is a very pretty little red merle female, small
at about 30 lbs, 4 years old, spayed, heartworm negative, and up to date
on vaccinations. She's quick, energetic, very interested in learning,
agile, and curious about everything.
Sadie is fine with other dogs, but
she probably won't be a playmate; she mostly prefers live-and-let-live,
and she will probably want to be the dominant dog in a multi-dog
household. She cannot be placed in a home with cats. But, Sadie is
extremely attentive to humans. She has great eye-contact and is just
dying to learn new stuff. She'd make a wonderful agility or flyball dog,
and may have good herding potential, though we haven't had the chance to
test this.
Sadie is housebroken, crate trained, rides great in the car,
and has an excellent recall. She is fine uncrated around the house,
doesn't chew on things or get into trouble. She loves attention and
petting and puts her head under your hand to nudge if you forget she's
there and waiting for pats.
Sadie has sort of an obsessive personality,
so does need a human who will help guide her away from things that might
become bad habits. She is glad to learn the right thing to do, but on
her own is as likely to pick up annoying habits and focus on those.
Sadie is no couch potato and will need to go to a home where she'll be
kept busy and where she can learn new things, but she is totally willing
to do your bidding and will make such a fun companion! Here is a video
of Sadie working on some training: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_LSmAgawCs
Please consider Sadie to
share in your activities! For more information or with questions,

"Rico"

Rico (short for Ricochet) is a 1-year-old terrier mix. Mixed with what
is a mystery, we suspect Jack Russell and ???. He is neutered, up to
date on all vet care, on Heartgard, Frontline, and is microchipped.
Rico
came in as a stray to the Iowa City Animal Care Center. One of our
flyball teammates works there and talked to our rescue in a last ditch
effort to save this little guy. He's definitely not an Australian
Shepherd, but we both saw lots of potential in this fun little dog!
Rico
was going to be euthanized, he was going to be very tough for the
shelter to place. He was all bounce, with no direction, he was a toy and
tug fiend, with no idea that chomping your hand wasn't allowed. Without
lots of training, he was just a high energy, bouncy, hand chomping,
athletic, no-direction-in-life mess, definitely not for the average
owner! We don't want to make him sound terrible, he really wasn't, he
just didn't know what to do with himself.
Rico had some great qualities
that were apparent from our first evaluation. His athleticism,
friendliness with dogs and people, and his immense toy and food drive
are all great things to work with. Rico spent roughly the first 3 weeks
in foster care learning the basics of life at our house; luckily he was
housebroken and got along great with our 4 dogs. He learned all about
crates, and now jumps in one whenever we walk near it. He learned that
bouncing off doors doesn't make them open, he now sits before he goes
out a door.
Rico also learned some of the finer points of house life,
like, don't sit on our heads while we watch T.V. and that the back of
the couch is not a diving board. He also learned great bite inhibition
with toys, how clickers work, and that letting go of the toy doesn't
mean the fun ends! He spent that time getting in shape to start some
real training for flyball and agility too. Rico took to flyball like a
duck to water, he gets to use all his great skills, bouncing, running,
tugging in one activity, yeehaw! He's now doing a box turn with the ball
triggering and is overall just a delight to work with. You ask him to
drop the toy he does, he has great stamina and usually wants to keep
going longer than I do. He will even work with our other 4 dogs milling
about the training building. He's got terrific focus and prefers to work
for toys versus food. We have some video of him doing his box training
at this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z52LqR06N8o.
Rico
absolutely loves playing with other dogs, he's even gotten our grumpy 12
year old dog to play with him. He is fantastic with cats, he likes kids
but you still need to make sure he doesn't knock little ones over.
Overall he is a delight to live and play with. In the house, he is
always doing something silly with his toys, he tries hard to please, and
gets along with everyone. Check out this video of Rico showing off his
best trick! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WYmY9oT_Wg
He is still a
young dog and does need a fair amount of exercise each day, but he can
also entertain himself with toys if needed. He has no destructive
habits, other than plucking off a few of my daffodils! He would be a
great flyball height dog, he's a tad bit shorter than our rat terrier,
who is just under 15" tall. He would also do well in agility, he's got
such great focus and a huge desire to work with you.

"Jessie"

Jessie was brought to the shelter by her owner of eight years, who wanted her put down because she didn’t get along with the family’s new puppy. The shelter worker told the woman that she was going to try to find Jessie a home rather than destroying her. Contacts were made, and Jessie was welcomed into the Almost Home Dog Rescue of Ohio program. Days later, the owner who had left Jessie alone to be euthanized called the shelter where she had abandoned her, checking to see if she was dead yet.
We’re happy to report that Jessie is far from dead! Rather, she is lovin’ life in her foster home, receiving daily the belly rubs that she loves so much.
Jessie is a uniquely colored very dark mahogany Collie. She loves to follow her people around and lay by their feet. Jessie is very affectionate and a big leaner! She loves to eat, although she isn’t food aggressive. She even smiles when her meals are being prepared. Jessie is house and crate trained.
Jessie is good with other dogs, although she isn’t interested in playing with them and prefers that they not try to engage her in such nonsense. Jessie feels the same way about children – the older ones are okay, but the young, playful ones make her uneasy.
We want to help Jessie find a new family who will love her to the very end. She will return that love one hundred-fold! The adoption contribution for Jessie is $175.00. Please contact Daryl at halvacs@aol.com for more information about Jessie, or any of our fabulous dogs.

"Wolfie"
|
German Shepherd Male, Large 6 year old.
Black & Cream color.
Housebroken, neutered.
He is a rescue.
Good with kids, other dogs ok, cats unknown.
Description: Named justly so, for his striking features that resemble a Black Artic Wolf, this K-9 could be right for your home. Don't get me wrong, Wolfie is 100% male German Shepherd neutered, of course. Wolfie is leash trained and kid tested and is very playful. Chisel his stoic features into your family portfolio and you won't be disappointed. Wolfie stands still in a breeze in your yard demanding respect by any stranger as you play amid the backdrop of your home. Wolfie can add a new dimension to home protection that relies solely on instincts and not the infallibility of hidden electronic devices. Beat off the echoing myers of lonliness and arm yourself with love and affection that Wolfie can offer. Wolfie is six years young and can be right if you have love to share.

"Cheesedog"
Cheesedog is an 8 year old spayed female German Wirehair Pointer. She loves to run, play, perform tricks, and be with family. She is a great hunter and enjoys being outdoors.
Cheesedog is smart and loving. She gets excited when strangers come to the door, but is learning how to stay calm when given direction. She enjoys children but can be nervous around toddlers who approach her head on and fall over her. She has had trouble off the leash with strange dogs. When she knows a dog, she is playful and friendly towards them. She is a great companion to anyone with a good heart.
