"Katie"
Looking for a devoted companion? If so, Katie (Protege #0153) is your girl! Katie is a 10 month old red-tri Australian Shepherd, nicely sized at 30 pounds. She is spayed, heartworm checked negative, up to date on vaccinations, and currently on flea/tick/heatworm preventatives.

Katie is friendly, outgoing with all people, and loves to be cuddles and petted. She has plenty of energy for activities like going for a walk or romping in the back yard, but settles in nicely in the house when it is appropriate to do so. Katie is housetrained and crate trained, and walks nicely on a leash. Katie gets along well with other dogs, and LOVES to be around children. We feel Katie would do best in a home without cats as she follows them around trying to get them to play. In the right home with a lot of patience and training, she could potentially share a home with a dog savvy cat.

Katie fusses initially when crated or left alone in the house because she wants to go with you wherever you are going, but she does settle and quiet down after a bit.

Katie is seeking a forever home with a family with room in their hearts for all the love she has to share with them, and room on their couch for snuggling. Katie is fostered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com for information or with questions.

"Missy"
Meet Missy (Protege #0152)! Missy is a fairly laid back blue merle female Australian Shepherd. She weighs approximately 40 pounds and is a little on the heavy side.

Prior to coming into Protege Canine Rescue, Missy was abandoned by her original owner when they moved away. A neighboring family was nice enough to take her in where she was mostly an outside dog and lived on a farm with another Aussie. She also lived with kids and was great with their kids. The family had Missy for about a year and they hoped that she would be able to help work the livestock with the other Aussie on the farm. Unfortunately she was scared to death of the pigs and the only things that she wanted to chase were the horses. The family was afraid that Missy would get kicked by the horses so they contacted us to see if we could find her a new forever home since the farm life wasn’t for her.

Missy has adapted very well to living inside of the house. She hasn’t had any accidents in the house. She is crate trained. Actually she kennels up like a dream! All you have to do is tell her to “kennel-up” and she runs downstairs, gets in the crate and waits until you shut the door. She doesn’t even make a peep when she is in the crate. She rarely if ever barks. Missy does not jump up on people. She will jump up in front of you as she is kind of bouncy when she is outside in the back yard but won’t jump on you. She also is not a digger.

Missy is a little shy when first meeting people but does warm up rather quickly and even faster if you pet her. She loves being petted and she’ll nudge you to get petted. She loves belly rubs and will lay on her back on the floor next to you for a long period of time for a good belly rub. Also, given the chance she enjoys sitting/snuggling next to you on the sofa.

Missy hasn’t shown much interest in dog toys other than Nylabones, other dog bones and tennis balls. She likes to chew on the bones and carry around the tennis balls. Occasionally she’ll play tug with her foster brother. Missy knows sit, down, stay and roll over. She is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations and currently on heartworm and flea and tick preventatives. Missy is fosteredin North Liberty, Iowa. If you might be intereted in making Missy a part of your family, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com.

"Clancy"
Meet Clancy (#0150). This handsome boy is a Border Collie/English Setter mix who is almost 2 years old and around 45 pounds. He spent most of his young life tied up outside or at a shelter.

Clancy is a shy but friendly guy who has discovered that he loves living in a house. When he first moved in he was very nervous of everyday household noises and was fascinated by the TV. He has become accustomed to the noises of the furnace and the fridge, and still watches TV sometimes. .

Though Clancy is a shy boy, he likes to meet new people. He is fully house trained and a wonderful house guest. Clancy likes to look out the front window watching the birds and squirrels, his tail wagging happily. He is kenneled trained, goes in well and is quiet. He is kenneled during the day.

He loves to play chase with the resident dogs and dogs at the dog park. He loves to play with toys, throwing them up in the air, watching them fall and then grabbing them and doing it again. He will play fetch also, but is still trying to understand why you throw the toy in the first place. He respectfully ignores the resident cats in the house.

He knows sit and down, but sometimes still gets them confused. When he is excited he will do a bouncy sit-down-sit that is very cute. He likes to snuggle, having his belly and ears scratched. If you stop and he doesn't want you to he gently places a paw on your arm as if to say please don't stop.

Clancy is neutered, current on vaccinations and heartworm tested. He is currently on heartworm and flea preventative.

He is looking for a loving home. He has not been around children so he may do better with older children. He will need a securely fenced yard. He needs an owner who will continue to socialize him to get over his shyness.

Here are a couple of videos of Clancy; you can see what a fun-loving guy he is!

"Bode"
Bode (Protégé #0151) is a 50 pound neutered male Border Collie, 10 months old. He is a high energy dog who is eager to please. He gets along well with other dogs, and loves to clown around and flip his toys around in the air. He is super sweet, and wants to be at your side wherever you go.

Bode would do best in a home without cats, as he follows them around nonstop, but he does not hurt them. In the right home with a lot of patience and training he could potentially share a house with a dog savvy cat.

Bode is housetrained and kennel trained. He has not been around small children, and because of his energy level, we feel a home without small children would be best. Bode is seeking a forever family who would like lots of kisses and takes the time to give him the exercise and attention he needs. Here is a short video of Bode in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTpmdhZNN1A

He is up to date on all vaccinations, neutered, and is on heartworm/flea/tick preventatives. Bode is being fostered at Camp Bow Wow in Hiawatha, Iowa, and is available for adoption through Protégé Canine Rescue. For more information about adopting Bode, please contact Jayne McQuillen at mcjayne@yahoo.com.

"Friday"
Friday is a 5 mos. old male S/P Min. Schnauzer. He was attacked by his family's Pit & was thought to have a broken jaw. However, X-Rays detected no fracture. Friday has been neutered, wormed, UTD on vacc., & on monthly Revolution. He will recieve the H38R canine flu vacc. He is social, warm, friendly, and smart. He is just a pup & should have pup training. If interested in Friday, please contact heyjude01@juno.com.

Update 02-12-10

I visited with Friday yesterday, shortly after he was neutered & awake. He was up going strong! He is underweight, but is eating well (Science Diet) & had his face/neck shaved to insert the stomach tube & care for his bite wounds. The bites look less invasive now & the tube is gone after the xrays showed no fracture.

Friday kept in stride with me, stopping when I did, sitting at my feet & leaning against my leg. He has a very sweet personality & loving temperment. He is not S/P as I had been told. He is a cream body color with apricot highlights. I know that some breeders put down white Schnauzers, Boxers, etc. I am so glad it did not happen to Friday. He is one darling boy!

If you are interested in this dog, please contact heyjude01@juno.com.

Update 04-02-10

Friday had his first groom since he has healed & his hair has grown out from his attackers bites. Isn't he handsome?! He sits on command, too!!
