"Jersey"
|
Meet Jersey (#0088), an amazing 5 month old Border Collie/Jack Russell Terrier mix. Jersey is spayed and up to date on all shots. She is about as perfect as puppies get. She is small at about 18 lbs. She is very well-mannered in the house, almost completely housebroken, and is good in a crate.
Jersey sleeps through the night on a bed or in a crate. She is calm and easy going, but will play as soon as she knows you are ready to join her. Jersey likes to play tug and chase balls. She is learning how to fetch. Jersey also loves all human beings, including children. She is very gentle with kids and in general is a very light-footed dog. She rides great in a car and walks pretty well on leash, although she is still learning leash manners. Jersey loves all people and would like everyone to pay attention to her and pet her, however she is fine just laying on a dog bed while people go about their business.
Jersey likes to counter-surf in the kitchen and is learning that is not appropriate. She is very food-motivated and has a good appetite; she is a breeze to train. Jersey is very sporty and would do excellent as a flyball, frisbee or agility dog. She can jump amazingly high and has the drive to learn new things. She is currently learning some flyball and is doing really well.
Jersey would like to go to a home where she can participate in a dog sport or activity, but would do fine in any family home as well. She has never chewed on anything around the house, not even her toys. Not only does Jersey have lovely manners, but she is also amazingly cute. Here is a video of Jersey in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puiiikjAQSc.

"Sue"
|
Sue is now ready to be adopted! Accept this sweet lady into your home,
and you'll be able to look forward to a friendly, curious, and devoted
companion for many years!
Thanks to the following for donating to help Sue recover: Julie
Downey, Carla Heim, Karen Fashimpaur, the Beck Family, and Angelic
Vetter.
Please meet Sue (#0090). This sweet girl was hit by a car and the
driver never stopped. A local animal control officer had about 10
calls on the incident. The callers said she crawled her way to the
side of the road. Her pelvis was broken in three places (one break was
shattered into small pieces). She had lacerations to the under side of
her stomach and back leg which were stitched up and have now healed.
Her pelvis is healing well.
Now, a little more than two months after her accident, Sue is doing
wonderfully! She's very mobile and is going for nice long walks
on-leash. She trots happily and enjoys being out and about. Sue is
wonderful on-leash, and can be walked easily by the children in her
new foster home. She can now go up and down stairs. She's running a bit
(squirrels! yeah!), and loves to roll around on her back in the warm
spring grass enjoying weather. One evening, she even got excited and
tried to play with me, doing play bows and running all around. She
looked so happy -- it was very sweet!
Sue is completely housebroken and is now cratetrained; she goes into a
crate happily and stays politely and quietly as long as needed. She'll
often go in on her own for a rest when we're around the house. She is
no longer on any meds. She completely ignores cats and is lovely even
with very small children.
Sue is around 5-6 years old and has been spayed. She eats well (she
does guard her food from the other dogs) and loves to hang out with
humans and get petted petted petted; she is full of gentle kisses and
and will sit near you and lift a front paw to your leg to alert you
she'd like a little more attention, please. She is completely fine
with all people (including kids) and dogs she meets, very quiet and
happy to get attention, very calm.
The only obvious thing Sue can't do at this writing is jump up into
the back of my car (though she'd like to! she loves car rides!). She
still needs to build up the muscles in her hind legs.
The vet suspects she was a farm dog, but doesn't know for sure and no
owners came forward. She obviously wanted very much to be clean and
was spending much time when she first came licking herself, so was
lucky finally to get a gentle bath once her stitches were out -- now
she is so pretty and you can tell she knows it and is much more
comfortable.
This video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ov_K7SxcEw shows Sue on her first climb up "Cannonball Hill" in the park nearby; obviously, she wasn't having much problem. The second video shows Sue browsing in the backyard at her
new foster home. You can see a good view of her left side, which was
badly injured in the accident -- her hair is growing in nicely and
soon you won't be able to see any remnants. You can also see her happy
stub tail wagging as mom talks to her. The first photo is of Sue when she first arrived in her foster home in February. These were taken on 4/03/09 and show how much she has improved -- and you can see how much cleaner she is!
If you might be interested in adopting this dog, email Jayne.

"Cody"
|
Cody is a very shy, timid Aussie. He is very lovable, but it takes time and patience to gain his trust. He is very playful with our other Aussie and our Collie. He is definitely not the dominant one. He has never shown aggression at all. He is fine with cats, cows and horses. He seems to be more comfortable with new people when he is on a leash. He will be 2 years old in June. We bought him when he was 5 months old. He has an old injury on his left lip. He had been bitten by a litter mate and is missing a small portion of his lip. We have wondered if that is what caused him to be timid. He is free to a good home. He has been neutered and is current on shots. I am moving to town and cannot take him. We live in Indianola. If you are interested in Cody and would like to talk to me about him, please email ritchey@dps.state.ia.us or call 515-897-8136. Thanks, Pam Ritchey, Cody's owner.

"Broder"
|
Broder is a 13 month old Border Collie/Husky mix who was surrendered to the shelter because his owner was moving. The owner said he is ¾ Border Collie and ¼ Husky, is housetrained, good with kids and other dogs and walks well on leash. Broder has a beautiful shiny coat - mostly black with some white on his chest and back feet. If you're looking for a Border Collie mix this boy is for you, he's a real sweetie! Please help Broder; the facility he is in is not the best ... the people really care but the kennels leave a lot to be desired. Contact Cindy Beenken at PAWS of Greene County located in Jefferson: ckbdlb84@live.com or 515-386-9814.

"Phoebe Snow"
|
Phoebe Snow is a retired breeder dog from a commercial kennel. She has lived in a cage all her life. She was never properly socialized as a puppy and never had a lot of interaction with people. Now she is looking for a home where she can be a house dog. Everything is new to her, including being loose in a house, leashes and collars and getting attention from people that want to pet her and play with her. It is a happy, exciting time in her life but still she needs someone with patience, understanding and a commitment to making a home for her.
Phoebe is a small size bichon frise girl. She is eight years old. Phoebe is a happy dog and not a barker at all. She is starting to play with toys and do play bows for me. She is learning to trust humans. She will make a great pet and Bichons do not shed. Phoebe is housetrained.

"Susanna"
Susanna needs your help. She was living in a barn on an amish farm when i found her in central wisconsin the beginning of July.. They had her in a small travel crate full of wet urine soaked shavings. She was matted to the skin and the mats were also soaked. She had hard mats between her pads and I dont know how she could walk. She had huge clumps of mats stuck to her feet and face and back end. The dirt on her back was so thick that her skin was raw. She has a hemotoma on one ear flap and fungus infection in both ears. She is missing many teeth . She is missing her left eye but sees well out of the other. It took hours to get this little gal cleaned up. She was so quiet while I groomed her , I thought she might have fallen asleep. She loved her bath and after she ran around the house so glad to be free of all the filthy hair and weight she has carried around for who knows how long. She has a nice disposition and has not given me a bit of trouble. I almost wonder if she didnt start out as a little house dog and end up on hard times. We are looking for help to get Susanna vetted. She needs shots, a dental , a spay, ear meds and surgery on her ear flap to drain the blood and antibiotics to heal. If you can help her , please send paypal to Limberlostdogs@aol.com. For Susanna. We cant do it alone.
