Howard is a 3 1/2 year old, neutered retriever/newfoundland mix whose owner was recently placed in a nursing home. He is current on all shots, very friendly toward children, adults, and other animals. Howard walks easily on a leash and loves running, walking, and hiking. He is a very loving dog. He has tested low-positive for heartworms but shows no signs of the illness. He is a little food possessive, so I always feed him in his own area. He has a beautiful thick black/grey merle coat, and I hope to place him in a cooler climate as summers in Memphis, TN, have been hard on him.
I will arrange transport to any approved home, even if it is out of state.

This is Reba. She is 5 years and gorgous. Because she was so beautiful, she was used like a breeding machine to make babies. Reba's first nights at my house consisted of me sitting on the floor talking to her for hours. She loves to play with toys, balls, and loves to lay in the sun. She would do well with larger dogs but NOT with children.
The 11th of April is a deadline for finding a home for her. She has been spayed and has all of her shots.

 Stacik is a purebred, male, South Russian Ovcharka. He has Russian as well as USA papers. Two puppy ribbons, well trained, all vet records, and just had his shots. Mamie is about 7 years old, and enjoying life in a foster home after a lifetime of having babies. She has a beautiful hound voice and is most comfortable with women.
Mamie is available for adoption through South Bend Animal Care & Control in north central Indiana. An application is required, as well as a $75 adoption fee. For the past seven months I have been taking care of my brother-in-law's and my sister's dog. Morty Frank was 31 years old and died in the World Trade Center attacks. My sister has been living with me, his wife, and just recently moved out. She emotionally and physically just can not care for the dog anymore. My husband and I are not able to either. Sugar is part german shepherd, part pitbull. She is a sweet, lovable, loyal dog but unfortunately terribly nervous. My brother-in-law took her in when she was six months. She was found on the subway, very abused. Her left eye was severely damaged and had to be removed.
I can not put her in a shelter, it would make her more nervous and just ruin her. I have tried to find a home for her on my own but first impressions are not so great. She is scared of strangers initially and it takes a couple of times for her to warm up to people. My husband and I will be traveling a great deal soon and I would like to find her a new home soon. If there is anything or anyone you know about I would greatly appreciate your help. She means a lot to us and it breaks my heart. My family's lives have changed so much. This is one more heartache we would like to prevent.

Boris, a 6 year old Dachshund, has come a long way since entering foster care. For one, he's lost 12 lbs. Still a hefty 32 lbs, he's on the right track. He enjoys playing with the garden hose and has recently discovered the joys of supported swimming.
Boris needs a home that will continue his weight loss program. He can be a bit of a grump, with a deep melodic growl. Gentle prodding works well with Boris. Forcing him may provoke him to snap.

Bridget and Brandy are 12 year old longhaired Dachshund "golden girls" looking for the perfect retirement home. They enjoy each other's company. Brandy has occasional issues with a herniated disc. She also is on treatment for a chronic cough condition. Their favorite hobby is sleeping!
