"Brinkley"
You must meet Brinkley! If you are not looking for your typical velcro Aussie, and prefer a dog who is a little more independent, but who still has all the wonderful Aussie characteristics, Brinks may be the dog for you. He is approximately 5 years old, a neutered black-tri male Aussie sporting a cool short summer hair cut (this photos is with his "real" coat)! He has a full tail.

Brinks gets along with all dogs he's met, does great at the dog park, and enjoys meeting people, is good with kids, loves to play fetch and catch frisbees! (Check out his video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbOx3fhR_v8 -- he actually gets all four feet off the ground!)

Brinkley is currently fostered with cats; he is interested in them, but calls away easily as he's concerned about being a good boy. We think he should initially be supervised when meeting cats so he can be reminded that they need to be left alone, and he will be fine. He's a happy boy despite his somewhat confused past. Brinkley was first owned by a teenage boy who didn't take care of him at all. He ended up caged in a backyard shed and that's when he was rescued.

Unlike most Aussies, Brinkley is really calm. He is just content to lay about quietly. He is also quite overweight at 75 lbs; he should probably be closer to 55-60 lbs. Because he loves so to run and play fetch and catch balls and frisbees (and chase BIG sticks!), we think it's likely he'll be a somewhat more active and energetic dog once he trims down. He's currently on a diet and doing very well.

Brinks does have one odd little characteristic -- he startles easily and is wary of sudden noises; he's also scared of the camera (so it's been a challenge to get good pics). (The kinda of nice thing about this is that during thunderstorms, he wants to hang out with you instead of hiding away somewhere.) This is the only 'bad' habit we've discovered, and it's quite easy to work with, his frights are small, and he gets over them quickly and plows happily ahead.

Brinkley is housebroken and doesn't try to get on furniture. He loves to go for walks, knows the commands sit, lay down, come here, no, stay, and put it down (to put down a stuffed toy before he goes outside). He loves stuffed animals and toys -- just carries them around with him and will lay with his paws or head resting on one. He loves to ride in the car, enjoys other dogs (we think he'll be more playful as he loses weight), and loves to meet people and to be petted.

Brinkley is current on all shots, is heartworm negative and on preventative, and is on Frontline. He is being fostered in Iowa City.

"Gretter"
Gretter is a 2 year old red-tri male. This loving boy is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. Gretter is crate trained, house trained, is mastering basic obedience commands, has good off-leash recall and definitely loves his toys. Overall, he is a very easy-going dog who is a touch spunky. Gretter's very tolerant of things such as daily household activities, community dogs and kids walking by the privacy fence, loud storms and is great with other dogs and cats. Gretter is in wonderful shape and would be great with a very dog-savvy family. His only downfall is that he gets so excited that he jumps - but his foster family is working on that with him. Just because of his larger size, Gretter may knock down small children when excited. A typical velcro Aussie in that he likes to be wherever the humans are, preferably close enough that they could pet him if they had a hand free, he is also quite content to lay at your feet. For more information or with questions, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with Protege Rescue.

"Reba"
Please meet Reba. Reba is a gorgeous dark red-tri Aussie girl, born in March 2007. She is unique-looking because she has no white on her face at all, and has dark brown eyes to match. Reba knows basic commands such as sit and down, has a pretty good recall (though mostly just comes because she'd rather be with you than anywhere else), and is good on leash. She is completely housebroken and is crate-trained, and rides well in a car.

Reba is getting along fine with her two foster sisters and loves to play fetch with a tennis ball! She brings the ball right back and drops it for you to throw again. She is a medium-sized girl at about 45 lbs. Her owner turn-in papers indicate she gets along with cats and kids (she lived with 6- and 12-year old boys); she does like to put her paws up on you to greet, so younger kids would need to be dog savvy until she learns not to do this. She's pretty active, but then she is only a year old. She hasn't been at all destructive with toys and isn't chewing on anything inappropriate; she has very good house manners -- although she is a little curious about what's on counters, she's learning to keep her paws down.

Reba is spayed and current on all vet work, on Frontline and Heartgard. Here is a short video of Reba: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IZcCfBaAiY. If you are looking for a fun girl to share in your summer activities, Reba might just be the dog for you!

"Josie"
Josie is a 1-1/2 year old active red-tri Aussie female, medium-sized at about 42 lbs. This sweet little girl is just a ball of energy and is always looking for a toy to have you throw.

Josie was picked up as a stray and was sitting at the local dog pound. She does seem a little fearful of men but, is improving daily with her foster dad. Josie is able to get along with the 3 other dogs in her foster home (all males) and is quite playful with them. Although a little too enthusiastic towards the cats on occasion, I think she will be able to live in harmony with cats in her future home. She is easily turned away from them when getting too excited.

Josie is an active girl who will need a home willing to spend time giving her something to do. Things like obedience classes, agility, disc dog, flyball and maybe even herding or being a running buddy would be wonderful activities for such an energetic dog. She is really such a little comedian. If you don't throw the toy right away she will hop on her front legs, moving a litlle bit backwards every time. I can't help but laugh and find it completely adorable. And let me tell you, BOY can this girl get air when she wants to -- a good jumper for sure!

Josie has been updated on her vaccinations, tested heartworm negative, has been started on heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and is scheduled for her spay. If you are interested in learning more about this loving girl, please contact her foster mom, Shellie today at i_lvanimals@yahoo.com. Josie is being fostered in southeast Michigan.

"Lab mix pups!"
We have recently taken four beautiful lab mix females into our foster care. This was the result of an over crowded shelter in WV. They are fabulous girls. They are all crate trained already, and ask to go out. All are up to date on their vaccines and flea/heartworm preventative. They will need their first rabies vaccine, as they were too young to receive it. For more info, or pics, please feel free to email me.

"Sam"

I am on the board of directors for the Vanderburgh Humane Society located in Evansville, IN. I have been fostering a yellow lab (not full blooded) male, 6 years old, that came to our shelter from owners in Indianapolis. He is housebroken and very sweet natured. If someone could contact me with any help in placing this dog it would be greatly appreciated. I have worked with rescue groups in the past but have no current contacts in the Midwest. Thanks for your help.

"Dixie"

Black Labrador-eight months old.

Dixie is a sweetheart of a dog. She loves to cuddle right up and put her head on your shoulder. Dixie is spayed and UTD on vaccines, hw neg. and on preventative. She is crate trained and her foster family is working on her housebreaking.

Dixie comes from a very impressive field trial line and is a super smart young lady. She has had hip x-rays which indicate possible problems with her left hip down the road. Her family gave her up as a field trial dog due to her x-rays. She is a terrific dog and will make a loving, smart and loyal companion for the right person. Please consider Dixie, once you meet her you will be glad you did. Contact runtrish@aol.com to learn more about this doll baby.

"Tiki"
Tiki is a spayed pit bull mix(we think) female. She is up-to-date on her shots, housetrained, on heartguard and frontline. She is about 9-12 months old. She is beautiful and very active. She would benefit from obedience class and would probably do well in a home where she is the only dog. She is located in Ocean Springs,MS.

"Aries"

Aries is a 3-year-old neutered male Dalmatian. He was brought to The Anti Cruelty because his owner moved and didn't want to take him. He is the sweetest dog ever! He is very affectionate and loves to cuddle and give kisses. He is a happy guy and his tail never stops wagging.

Aries is great with people and kids and is good with most dogs. He would be best in a home where he is the only dog or a home with a submissive dog. He doesn't require a lot of exercise but loves to go for walks and is good on a leash. Aries is house trained and knows basic obedience.

If you would like to meet Aries please call or email Chicago Canine Rescue at: 773-294-9305 or info@chicagocaninerescue.org
