"Bugsy and Candy"

Hi, we are Bugsy and Candy, also known as “the wee ones”. We are staying in NE Ohio right now, but if you have room in your home and hearts for us, please write my foster mom. We are a senior bonded pair who has known nothing but love our whole lives. Please don’t ask my foster mom to split us up; we have been together for more than 10 years.

Both pups are in good health, up to date on everything, and just had a dental. They are housebroken for the most part but do have accidents. If this will upset you, please don’t apply for them. The smaller dogs just can’t hold it as long as bigger ones can. Candy is on an anti-seizure medication twice a day, but is very well regulated as long as she has it. Bugsy needs a yard that is very well fenced in since he can fit through the tiniest opening and start to run. Both pups are as sweet as could be and love to go wherever you go. "Cherish"
A grant from the Vizzi Family Fund of York Foundation helped cover the medical expenses incurred in rehabilitating Cherish. This is a story that will make you cry. Even before I picked up this dog I knew her name had to be Cherish, as she needs so much for some kind, loving soul to adopt her and cherish her for the rest of her life.

I received a phone call that there was a stray yorkie picked up by our local humane society. They thought she was dead lying in the dirt beside the road. When I first saw Cherish she was matted beyond recognition, smelled so bad you couldn't get close to her without it gagging you. She had a bad infection with pus coming out of her vagina. I scratched her back and she could hardly lift her head to see who I was as she had a fever of 104. She was rushed to our vet who did the surgery, put her on antibotics, shaved her totally and gave her an oatmeal bath because her skin was in such bad condition. She stayed at the vet's office with an IV for 3 days before I could bring her home.

We estimate that Cherish is about 12 years old but she has so much to give someone who will just love her. She has sore paw pads as her nails had curled back and some were grown into her paws with her matted hair twisted around them. She holds up her back left leg sometimes and I think it's because she weighs too much for her little frame. She should only be about 7 pounds and it would help her walk better. She walks around on the grass in my back yard and goes potty. She ignores my other dogs and right now is sleeping a lot of the time to recover.

I expect to see more and more changes in Cherish as the days go by. She won't be ready to go to her new home for a few weeks, but if you know that you can give her a warm lap to lay in and understanding that just because she's old doesn't mean someone should throw her away, please submit your application.

"Eddie"

Hello everyone, my name is Eddie and I am a Yorkie mixed with Daschund/Poodle, well that is what they tell me but I also have the softest, most beautiful curly hair around. My story begins when I was picked up by the doggie police and put in the doggie prison because they saw me wandering around on the busy streets. They just didn't understand that I am a very good boy and all that I was doing was looking for someone to take me home and love me. A lady who works at the doggie prison called my foster Mom in the Yorkie Kingdom to say that they had this sweet little boy, but he just didn't have "The Look" that it would take for someone to adopt him. I didn't quite understand what she meant by that because I didn't think that the "green mile" walk was a fashion show runway either. Also, since the prison house was full, she said that the only way I was going out of the front door was if the lady, who is now my foster Mom, would come and get me. Well, she did and I am now living at Carly's Castle and I couldn't be happier. I've also been inducted into the Ring of Honor and I am now considered one of the Princess's Knights in Furry Armor. One of the tests was that I had to follow Princess Carly's strict protocol and see the Yorkie Kingdom's vet, who said that I have a medical problem with my eyes called "Dry Eye." This means that I MUST have drops put in my eyes two to three times a day to keep them from getting gooey and also from messing up my eyesight permanently.

I weigh right at 10 LB and I'm what they call a senior because I am around 10 years old. My foster Mom says that there are lots of benefits to adopting a senior and that one look at me and that is all of the living proof that anyone would need. Wasn't that so nice of my foster Mom to say that? Oh well, I've gotta run now because Princess Carly is returning from her outing and all of the Knights have just been called to the central courtyard to prepare for her arrival....and that includes me too!!! :O) Contact my foster Mom at carlyscastle@unitedyorkierescue.org if you are interested because she's the one that can really brag about me. :O)) If you're interested in being adopted, the first step in the "pawcess" is to fill out an Adoption Application

"Isaiah"

Hello Everyone, my name is Isaiah and I am here to tell you a little about myself. I guess I should start off from the very beginning.......

There I was, extremely frightened and very much in severe back pain, sitting in a cold damp shelter not being able to see a single thing because I am blind and to top it all off, I was surrounded by meowing cats everywhere. Yes, CATS because when I arrived at the animal shelter they place me in what they call the CAT ROOM and since I was in so much pain I really couldn't even think of complaining about my accommodations. It seemed as if I sat in that shelter for an eternity and I was starting to lose all hope because I just wanted someone to help me get out of all of this horrible pain that I was feeling. I then remembered hearing the Dr. at the shelter say that she was calling the rescue group and was going to allow them to come and get me a day earlier than scheduled because I was having very serious problems. Those words were, I guess you can say, literally "Just What The Doctor Ordered" and in no time at all my Ant Kat arrived to free me and get me to my foster Mom's vet where the staff was already waiting to take care of me.

I was immediately given IV antibiotics, pain meds and fluids to help ease some of my pain and discomfort. It was also noticed that I had a very arched back and was straining to go to the bathroom and that is when the vet tried to do an exam but I was just in too much pain due to the swelling. The vet then got me all settled into my warm and cozy cage where I finally was starting to get a little relief from the misery that I was going through, so I then decided to try and doze off and get some rest. It wasn't a moment later when I heard the vet call my foster Mom and tell her that she may have some really bad news on her new little foster guy....which was ME.

The vet told my foster Mom that after my semi-exam she feels that I may have a perianal tumor and due to my age they would not be able to do surgery but she did want to sedate me the next day to do another exam and get an X-ray because today's exam was just too painful for me without a sedative. In the meantime, my foster Mom was very heartbroken by the news and as hard as it was for her she was obviously preparing for the worse. Well, the news came back and the test revealed that I didn't have a perianal tumor after all but instead I have severe spondylosis which is due to aging and is basically severe arthritis of the spine and it is because of the arthritis that it makes my back arch.

I'm also HW neg., had a dental so I have a very pretty smile, I weigh about 10 LBS. and I am very much a well respected senior Yorkie. When my foster Mom visited me at the vet's office she said that she is so glad that she didn't have to help me to Rainbow Bridge. I'm not sure where this Rainbow Bridge is but I can tell you that I did cross a bridge alright....it was a drawbridge that lead my right up to the doors of Carly's Castle, which is where I am now living very comfortably and being waited on hand and foot.

Since I am blind I will bark for you to come and take me outside, I bark when I want you to show me where my water bowl is, I bark when I want you to take me to my bed and my foster Mom's all time favorite is that I am now barking when I want you to come and just give me some gentle loving. :o) I am now doing so much better and the good news is that my back is not arched to the degree that it was when I first arrived and at this time I am also off of all my medications too.....YIPPEE!!!!

Well, it's now time for me to take in a nap but don't forget to email my foster Mom with any questions that you may have and I can promise you that she will have some very wonderful things to say about me. ;o))

"Lady"

Hi, they call me Lady. Foster Mom says it is a perfect name for me cause that is just what I am. I am told that I am such a good girl. My life has not always been so good. You see, I am blind. I have what they call dry eye. I produce no tears and no one cared to keep them moist so I lost my sight. I was so matted and my skin didn't smell too good either. Stuff was coming out of my eyes too. I really was in bad shape when United Yorkie came to my rescue. They knew that I was going to cost more than some to get me feeling better but they took me in anyway.

I am up to date on all shots, spayed and my teeth are clean now. I am estimated to be between 8 and 10 years old. I really am a pretty girl and Hey; you should see how quick I learn to get around. I am very quiet and love to be hugged. I do like to eat and I like to lie on my pillow. I will need drops in my eyes for the rest of my life but that is not much to ask for the company of a sweet girl like me. It would be so wonderful to be loved for the rest of my life. Could you do that for me? If you cannot, Could you be my buddy? Any and all donations are so appreciated. UYR spends thousands on all of us here and it is with your help that they can continue to help ones like me. Thanks so much. Sincerely, Lady

"Luna"

Hi my name is Luna. My previous mom had to give me up because I have two bad knees that need to have surgery and she couldn't afford to pay for it. She gave me to this really nice lady that said she would help. Anyway, I'm 6 months old and weigh 7.6lbs. My foster mom says I'm slender and she wishes she could be that way too! My foster mom says I'm a very good girl and I really try to go potty outside most of the time but I'm having so much fun here, sometimes I forget! What I would really like is a home that I can call forever. Is that home with you?

"Molly"

9/06/04 - Molly had a recheck x-ray on her leg last week and it is about the same. Plate and screws holding VERY well. The larger break area is still not filling in fast at all but they said as long as the plate holds there is no problem with that. They said it could take a very long time for that to fill in. She is also getting her teethies cleaned tomorrow!! She will see the vet again in about 6 weeks or so.

Original Bio - Hi everyone. My name is Molly and I am about 3 years old they tell me. I need your help please. I had been with a lady and I had puppy's and I don't know where my baby's are. But, now I am with a foster mom and they are taking such good care of me and trying to help me. My right front leg has been broken since September, yes that is correct. The lady that had me did not help my leg, I guess she just wanted my baby's and not me. I was "fixed" about 2 weeks ago so I will not have anymore baby's and lose them.

The nice doctor here says my leg is VERY bad because it has been so long since it got broken but he thinks he can fix it where I can use it again. He says it will be a really extensive surgery. One part of my leg bone is just split off and not even sitting where it should with the rest of them and then I also have a lot of calcification, whatever that is, where my elbow is and that has to be cleaned away. Then I need to have rods put in too!!! Maybe I will be Wonder Woman when this is done!!!

He also told my new foster mom that I would need maybe 6 months of physical therapy because the tendons have contracted because I have not used my leg in so long. The nice doctor feels with the surgery and the PT my foster mom will do, that I should be able to use my leg again!! Would that not be so wonderful to be able to run and play on 4 legs again!!??

I am a little afraid of people because the first person that had me was mean to me as I said but I adjust well to loving people. I just need time and lots of love and please hold me a lot too. Please help me get my little leg fixed so I can have a better life than I have had so far. Every puppy needs to be happy don't ya think? Love Molly

Molly's surgery was a success. Her foster mom writes, "Molly is The Un-Sinkable Molly Roberts!! HAHAHAHAHA Remember that movie!!!!?? I said she had been though soooooooo much and she is still fighting to live!!! I praise her all the time and so does Tom (Her husband)!! She is a strong girl"

"Pooh Bear"
My name is Pooh Bear and I am 10 years old. My Mom moved away and could not take me with her. I am doing good with my new foster mom, but really my foster dad is my best friend. He is very tall and when we go on walks I feel just as big as he is. I am really a very little guy at around 4 pounds. I have some health problems, that will probably be long term. So I will need a special person that will take care of my needs. I like other dogs and I like to play, but I am not suppose to get excited, because it makes me cough a lot. I have a partially collapsed trachea and at times I get choked a little. I am very sweet and I know there is someone special that will take good care of me.

I am one of the more Distinguished Gentlemen in UYR and am over 10 years of age. I have a whole lot of love to give.

I love sitting in my Foster Moms lap while she reads to me and giving her a kiss whenever she slows down with my story. I am afraid of children so I need a home without kids. If you are a kind and gentle soul looking for a devoted older Gentleman to love, please call. Let's go for a drive, I love those! AND A DOGGIE PICNIC! I really love those!!!
