"Betty Boop"
The first thing you will notice about Betty Boop is her intense coloration, very deep, rich black and red short coat that is really good looking! Betty Boop is young, probably just under a year old. She is spayed and vaccinated. She is a fun loving dog, active, playful and seriously wants a person or family to be connected to. She could easily be someone's shadow. Betty likes to play and snuggle. We can see that she is very, very smart. If you would like more info or to schedule an appointment to meet her, call the foster home at 423-727-6262. Located in NE Tenn.

"Derby"
Meet Derby! Derby is a 2 1/2 year black-tri male Australian Shepard. He has had all of his vet work including shots and neutering.

Derby came to us very nervous and insecure and has since settled into his skin and he has truly started to enjoy life. Starting out he was very timid and he allowed the other animals in the house to push him around and take away the attention from him. Now he is showing more dominance. He pushes his way through the crowd for attention and wrestles over toys with the other dog. He has befriended our kitten and learned how to play small so that the kitten can keep up. He is great around other animals and people but he tends to shy away from loud noises and commotion. Initailly he was not very fond of his kennel, but has since warmed up to it. Occasionally he will whine, especially in the morning when he is ready to get up.

Derby is completely housebroken and has not had a single accident. Derby has a constant yearning for attention and love and we are working on the concept of personal space. He is getting better at playing with his toys or sleeping in his bed instead of following us around. He enjoys exploring the counter tops for food, which we are working on as well. Derby would be great for a family with or without other pets. He gets along very well with the dog and cats in our house as well as with Evie, who is his lady friend--also being fostered and listed below.

Derby and Evie were discovered on Craig's List and were being advertised as a breeding pair. Since coming to us they have both been given space and time to grow and both are amazing and intelligent; because they had been together so long, they could easily be adopted together. Derby would also be perfectly content being the only pet in the house. He loves to go on walks, play in the snow, go on car rides and on trips to Petco, cuddling, and he is learning day by day to play with new toys. Derby is an amazing, caring, and compassionate dog and his main goal in life is to please.

Derby is being Fostered in Cedar Rapids. If you might be interested in adopting this dog, email Jayne (mcjayne@yahoo.com) at Protégé Canine Rescue.

"Evie"
Meet Evie! Evie is a 2 1/2 year old blue merle female Australian Shepherd who is spayed and up to date of all of her shots, monthly heartworm and flea preventataives. Evie has had a rough life so far, but you wouldn't guess it from her sweet demeanor!

Evie and her male Aussie friend Derby were spotted on Craigslist, being given away for free as a breeding pair. (Evie and Derby are great friends and would be happy to be adopted out together! He'll be posted here soon.) Poor Evie had already given birth to at least one litter of puppies before we got her and had her spayed. She also had a cyst on her chest which we had to have removed, so Evie has been wearing a t-shirt to keep her from scratching or licking her scars.

Evie has been through a lot in the last couple weeks, but you won't hear her complaining. She is virtually the perfect house guest and she couldn't be a happier girl. Evie has a healthy appetite and weighs about 50lbs. She has good manners in the house and LOVES attention from any human. Evie is good with young kids and babies. She seems to get along well with most dogs, although she may be somewhat territorial. She has been nice to her foster brother and although she ignores him often, she has been caught playing with him once or twice. Evie doesn't like to go to her crate, but once she is inside it she is nice and quiet.

Evie is somewhat pushy, because she always wants to be right next to a human. She is obviously jealous when other dogs get more attention than she does and she remedies that by pushing her way right into the mix. Evie LOVES to snuggle and give kisses. Sometimes she gets so close to you; she sits right on your lap! Her foster family is working on pushiness manners!

Evie would probably be very happy as a single dog, but could certainly manage well with other dogs in the house. She is definitely a Velcro Aussie. Evie is a calm, mild mannered dog and is not incredibly active around the house. She is pretty obedient and good off-leash as well as in the car. She has quickly learned a pretty good recall! Evie is completely housebroken and has never had an accident inside. She loves snuggling and would make a great family pet. She is being fostered in Cedar Rapids.

If you might be interested in adopting this dog, email Jayne (mcjayne@yahoo.com) at Protégé Canine Rescue.

"Moze"
Moze is a 10 month old red-tri Australian Shepherd. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, monthly heartworm and flea preventatives. His owner previous had to relinquish him because of to health problems. Moze is mostly housebroken and hasn't had an accident in the house since he has started whining when he needs to go outside. If he is told "outside potty" he will go if he has the urge. We are still working on housebreaking and he is doing very well.

Moze knows sit, lay down, drop it, get the ball. He is also learning more tricks with clicker training and is having a blast. Walking on a leash is something he already knows, but he will pull if in new surroundings. He is very laid back in the house and loves to snuggle and lie at your feet. When outside, let the good times roll!

Here are a few video clips of Moze:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3TVByDcr9A

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBOBDy6b9zc

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ms2HKYhiKv4

Moze is not alpha, doesn't jump up, chew or bark excessively. He is pretty good around cats that are used to the antics of a playful puppy and is learning not to bark at horses. When in the crate, he is usually quiet and will settle down when told to. He's getting better at coming when called and will pass up a treat if you offer to throw a ball for him! As he will do his best to stay out of another dog's way, he would be a good candidate for a multiple dog household. He is easy to bathe once you get him in the tub. He will lie down and is very respectful when grooming. We're not sure about riding in a car yet as he drools a lot, but has not gotten carsick. Even when being in a car for over an hour. He will quite possibly outgrow this as he matures.

Moze is currently recovering from Kennel cough. He is currently sharing toys and bowls with 3 other dogs and none of them have shown any signs of coming down with it. He is currently on cough meds and improving daily. Moze went to the vet on 12/15/08 and weighed in at 47 pounds. He is being fostered in Troy Mills, Iowa. If you might be interested in adopting this dog, email Jayne (mcjayne@yahoo.com) at Protégé Canine Rescue.

"Flea"
Flea is a 1 year old Rat Terrier. He is neutered and up to date on all shots, on Heartgard and Frontline. Flea came into a central Iowa animal shelter as a stray and the evaluators there thought he would be an excellent candidate for dog sports. They were right, more importantly, he would have driven most pet homes a bit batty, so they contacted our rescue group!

Flea is a very athletic, high energy dog, but he is happy to work and loves to learn new things. He is very obedient, good off-leash, and boy can he focus! He loves playing with toys, tugging, destuffing toys, snuggling up with you, and he loves to chase a laser pointer light at a high rate of speed around the house.

Flea gets along wonderfully with other dogs, loves kids, loves strangers, well actually he just loves life in general! Flea is housebroken, knows sit, down, to jump in your arms on command, fetches, and learned flyball skills in a very short time. He's also been introduced to agility obstacles, which he thinks are very fun! He does insist that he sleep under the covers at night and makes an excellent bed warmer!

To see Flea learning how to play flyball, check out this YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4xMx01ficM.

He is all business when you are training and wants to keep working. He is a very comical dog and he is constantly making us laugh at his silly antics, like throwing a toy for himself or just looking really darn cute! For video of his general cuteness, check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaYbhWtaW9o. . He really is wonderful to live with, provided he gets enough exercise.

Flea would really like a home where he can play flyball or agility or lots and lots of fetch. If not he will live up to his name and jump on you and bug you!! Flea will only be placed in a dog sport home or a very active home. He weighs 13 lbs and is 14" tall, making him an excellent size for a flyball height dog! Flea is fostered in the Iowa City, area. If you might be interested in adopting this dog, email Jayne (mcjayne@yahoo.com) at Protégé Canine Rescue.

"Wally"
This is Wally. Wally is a 10 week old sable Border Collie puppy, born on September 14th. Wally was adopted by a family that had four young children and they quickly realized they had no time for a rambunctious puppy. Unfortunately, this leaves Wally in need of a good, forever home.

Wally is a happy boy and is learning his name very quickly. Because Wally is so young, he is not yet housebroken; however his foster home is working on this with him. Wally always goes pee when he is taken outside, but does have accidents in the house at times. He is a very smart boy and catches on to things very fast. Wally already tugs with tug toys and chases a tennis ball. He loves playing with his foster mom’s dog and enjoys running around in the backyard.

Wally does like to chew things, but he will gnaw on dog toys if he is redirected to do so. Wally is very playful and he will likely be a very active boy as he continues to grow. He would probably be an excellent partner for a person interested in agility, flyball, frisbee or herding! Wally has been caught digging in the backyard at his foster home, but he doesn’t seem to do it on a regular basis.

Wally is getting to be good in his crate and will go in willingly for a treat. He does whine in his crate when he knows you are still home, but he is getting much better. Wally loves to play and be petted. So far Wally has been friendly with all dogs and humans he has met.

Wally isn’t huge on snuggling, but he does love attention. He has gotten to the point where he sleeps through the whole night! He wakes up around 5:00 a.m. to go out, but soon he will be sleeping later. He has a big appetite for a little guy and still needs to learn some manners while eating.

Wally has shown some dominance over other dogs when food is nearby, but his foster home is working on this and hoping he will grow out of it. Wally is an adorable puppy, who loves to play and needs an active, dog savvy home. He is being fostered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is current on age-appropriate vaccinations and will be neutered before being placed. If you might be interested in adopting this dog, email Jayne (mcjayne@yahoo.com) at Protégé Canine Rescue.

"Jed"
Special needs dog in Iowa- DONATE TO HELP!

Please meet Jed. JED'S SURGERY COST $330.50. WE NEED DONATIONS TO HELP WITH THIS AND TO GET HIS ADOPTION FEE BACK DOWN TO A REASONABLE AMOUNT. Please send donations to: Waverly Pet Rescue, PO Box 291, Waverly, IA 50677. Or a credit card donation can be made with PayPal to waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com. Thanks for helping Jed! **Thank you Elaine Eshbaugh for $60 toward's Jed's surgery!**$225 from sponsors Abby and Mark Rippe! THANK YOU!!**$40 raised at chili supper**

Jed was a stray in a town without a shelter. He was going to be put down when no one claimed him. Instead, the Waverly Pet Rescue has taken him in and he is in a volunteer home. He is up-to-date on shots, heartworm negative, and neutered.

Jed is a gentle and loving two year old dog. After being picked up he was continually favoring his back leg, so we took him to the vet to get an x-ray. Jed's leg had been broken when he was a puppy and it was never fixed, so his broken bones fused together incorrectly, causing him a lot of pain all the time. If the leg was not amputated he was going to continue to be in pain and have problems in the future.

Jed has had the surgery and now only has three legs, his back right leg has been amputated. This has not stopped Jed from running around and playing. He has been running up and down stairs and jumped up on the backseat of the van on the ride home from the vet. Jed is truly a miracle dog; the vet could not believe that he made it that long as a stray with such a serious break and bad bone fusion.

Jed is a wonderful dog and has a heart of gold. He is very gentle and loving and only wants to please you. He likes to lay next to you and be your right-hand-man. Jed is housetrained and will come immediately when called. He is great with other dogs and he does well with the cats. Jed also loves kids and loves getting attention from them. Jed does not jump or chew and is very obedient. He would make a great family pet and companion!

11/17/08 Jed goes back to the vet in two weeks to get the stitches removed and have a checkup. He will be available to adopt once he has this appointment. Will someone please adopt Jed and give him a forever home? $165.00 adoption fee (his vet bill for shots, heartworm test, and neuter came to $160.56, and his surgery was $330.50).

WE ARE NOT A SHELTER. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first. If you have questions or want to request an application, please send an email to waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com. All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues.

"Brandy"
This is Brandy. She is a 5 year old red merle Aussie who loves to run, play ball, and do agility. She has had obedience training, and knows sit, down, come, stay, stand, and heel commands very well. She has her novice title in Rally Obedience (AKC) and her Canine Good Citizen Certification (AKC), and is trialing in agility in December.

Brandy loves people and has had a lot of socialization. She has even played the role of “Sandy” in a middle school performance of Annie! Brandy is very good with the 2 year old little girl she lives with. Currently she lives with 3 other dogs as well, but she is really more suited to be in a single dog home as she is much happier with people than dogs. She would love a home where someone could throw the ball or Frisbee and spend time with just her. If her new family would like to continue with her rally or agility, she would definitely love that as well. While she is crate trained, she is completely housebroken and does not need to be in a kennel. She travels well.

Brandy is a great dog, spayed and up-to-date on all shots as well as micro-chipped. Brandy is in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area. If you might be interested in having Brandy join your family, please contact Chuck or Connie at 319-560-0844, or by email at adamsck@southslope.net.

"Allie"
This is Allie. Allie was found in the country, lost and very frightened. She was quite shy at first but has come around quickly. She is approximately 1 year old and weighs about 20 lbs. She is very loving and gets along with dogs and cats. She is doing very well on her housebreaking.

Allie wants to please and loves praise. She is now feeling at ease and not so scared. She must have been lost for quite awhile as she was full of burrs and pretty thin; she is doing great on the leash and is making good progress with housebreaking.

Allie is playful and gets along well with other dogs and with our two cats. Allie met our two year old grandaughter yesterday and went right to her and gave her a kiss. She is current on her vaccinations. She is a sweet little girl.

For more information or with questions, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with Protege Rescue.

"Wiggles"
Wiggles is a hoot because when happy, she does the hula! That endears her to everyone she meets. She has a stub tail, tan body with black mask; a very attractive dog. Everyone who sees her thinks she is so incredibly cute but her attention always goes to other dogs! She adores other dogs and tries to make friends where ever we bring her. We call her the social butterfly, as she flits from dog to dog greeting and kissing.

So, in order to place her where she would be happiest, she should go to a home where there is already another pet that needs a friend. Of course, if you don’t have another dog, we will be happy to supply you with another one! Her current best friend is Millie, who tolerates Wiggles’ silliness so well. She plays with the other dogs very nicely.

Born 12-19-7, spayed and vaccinated. Weight – around 40-45 lbs which is surprising because she does not appear to weigh that much being a “smaller medium” size dog so she must have heavy bones! Contact tnrescueranch@yahoo.com to ask questions or to schedule an adoption. We are located in the far NE corner of TN - We do out of state adoptions!

"Lucas"
Lucas is the “big shy kid” type. He makes friends slowly, unless you have really good treats like chicken bits or some kind of meat – that speeds up the process! He is a Bassett and Redbone Hound mix, not a mix I would have put together but it really works for him. He is very sweet but very much a baby, a momma’s boy or daddy’s boy. His body style is long and chubby, legs are short but not bent like a Bassett and his color is the beautiful red of the Redbone with Redbone ears and eyes. He has gotten along with other dogs here in foster care. Walking on a leash is his absolutely favorite thing to do. He is definitely not the type of dog that will greet visitors to your home, he will keep his distance but there is benefit to that – at least he will not be jumping up on everyone! He is the type that bonds with his family members whether it is a sole person or a group; he just feels no need to be a stranger’s friend. However, he is an alert dog and an excellent watch dog.

Born 2-7-8. Already neutered and vaccinated, he is ready to find a permanent home. Contact tnrescueranch@yahoo.com to ask questions or to schedule an adoption. We are located in the far NE corner of TN - We do out of state adoptions!
