"Addyson"
Meet Addyson (Protege #0282)! She will be 8 years young in September, though we never would have guessed that to be her age! She has very unique eyes with areas of blue that give her a "googly eye" effect. She is a lovely red merle and weighs roughly 45 pounds. Her eyes are a great feature, but her bubbly personality is even better! Once she had a few days of adjustment, she started playing ball and frisbee and she loves to give us kisses. She thoroughly enjoys being petted and if we stop, she will wiggle her head under our arms until we start again. She is a velcro dog and has decided that her foster mom cannot go far before she has to come looking for her.
Addy's previous home loved her very much and had for 7 years. Recently they welcomed a young baby into the household and as exciting as that was for the family, it was too exciting for Addyson. She started behaving in ways that Aussies often do by trying to herd and nip at the baby and other young children. As much as they loved Addy they asked for Proteges help in re-homing her. A requirement for adopting Addyson would be a home without babies or young children.
Addyson gets along well with other pets, including cats. Her previous home mentioned that she had a "motherly instinct" and she has demonstrated this when her foster home got a new kitten. She will clean and lick the kitten and allow the kitten to crawl all over her and cuddle up to her. She can be possessive of toys and food if the other dog in the foster home tries to take them from her, and so meal and play times are always supervised and have had no issues. She does well on car rides, though she does get a little nervous, and she enjoys walks.
The best part about having an older dog is that she already knows a lot! She knows sit, stay, shake, and outside which indicates that it is potty time. Addy had never been kenneled and so her foster home took a leap of faith in allowing her free range of the home and she has proven to be an all star! She sleeps on a dog bed in her foster parents room at night and during the day we expect that she spends it on the couch since the pillows are always rearranged when we come home! She is completely housebroken and can easily go a work day. The best part is that she is way past the puppy chewing stage and so there is no need to worry about destruction, unless it is a stuffed toy!
Addyson is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, on heartworm and flea preventative and ready for her new forever home! She is currently being fostered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

"Chester"
Meet Chester (Protege #0279). This fluffy boy came to us from a shelter in Illinois, we think he was a stray. Chester is a red-tri neutered male Aussie around 2 years old. He weighs about 48 pounds. He looks much larger than he is because of his fluffy coat. He has one striking blue eye and a brown eye.
Chester is a very friendly dog who really enjoys being petted. He loves to play with his foster brothers. They are often either wrestling or chasing each other around the yard. He likes to pounce on balls, and is learning how to play fetch. Chester is housebroken. He is kennel trained, but prefers to be left out: he is kenneled during the day when his foster mom is at work. He knows sit and come. We are working on down and walking nicely on a leash. He has learned to sit and wait for his meals. Chester loves car rides and does well in the car. He likes to play and hang out outside when the weather is good. In the house he will lay down on the floor or a dog bed to rest, but he does enjoy climbing into your lap for snuggle time.
There are two cats in his foster home and he gets along with them, but does try to chase them sometimes. Chester does have a little storm anxiety. He is not destructive, just paces and pants. He will relax a little if he can get next to you and lay down. He is good with kids and loves it if they will give him belly rubs.
Here is a very short video of Chester -- look at that little tail go!
Chester is being fostered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is current on vaccinations, heartworm testing, on heartworm and flea preventatives, and he is already microchipped.

"Rambo"
Rambo is a gorgeous white Lab that loves people and has a very gentle personality. He loves to run & romp, but does need some mannerisms on play. He is approximately 5 years old, neutered, UTD on vacc., and will be undergoing HW treatment.
Rambo has been chained the majority of his life and missed many opportunities to adjust to a more social life. His previous owner could no longer keep him so has rendered him for adoption. He knows sit and shake. He has been introduced with some boarding dogs in pens but it is not known how he will do one on one. He was adopted and brought back due to his inexperience with chickens. He may be best suited for a one dog family. He does wait until his ‘yardtime’ to take care of business, so housetraining should be a breeze.
Inquiries please contact heyjude01@juno.com.

"Hank"
Meet Hank (Protege #0275)! This handsome young Aussie boy is around 2 years old and weighs about 55 pounds. Hank is mostly red with a white trail from his mouth down to his chest. He is house trained, kennel trained, rides well in vehicles, gets along great with other dogs and cats, loves belly rubs, and has a perfect record with his foster parents. Hank is current on all vaccinations and will be neutered before adoption.
Hank is extremely well-behaved. He has never had an accident in the house, or chewed anything he was not supposed to. Hank loves bones and rawhides. He is not that interested in most of the toys around the house and likes to stay close while his foster brother fetches the tennis ball. Hank is very good at matching energy levels, he loves to play but is not overly energetic compared to breed standard. Most of the time Hank can be found lounging close to his people. He also loves to play with his five month old foster brother and will let him win most of the time.
Hank loves his people and is a very good listener. Hank knows sit, lay down, come, up, potty, kennel, and is learning more all the time. Hank would love a yard to play in but can escape from low fences so will need to be watched carefully; a higher chain link or privacy fence would be ideal. He is quiet when in his kennel and will only signal if he needs to go out. Hank has been sleeping out of his kennel at night and has done very well.
Hank is currently located in Iowa City, Iowa and is waiting for his forever family to come meet him.

"Rosco"
This handsome guy is Rosco (#0271), a 2-3 year old black-tri Australian
Shepherd. Don't be fooled by his age, Rosco is all puppy still! He has
proven to be very active, constantly wanting to play and fool around. He
loves toys and always chooses good things to chew, but will try to chew
on dog beds if given the opportunity. He currently lives with two cats
and tolerates them well, though he can be a bully at times.
He is very smart (he learned down in about 20 minutes), he knows how to
kennel, sit and shake. He also knows what NO means when correcting his
puppy behaviors. He is completely kennel trained and we believe that he
has the house training figured out now, too!
Rosco needs something to do constantly so his ideal home would be an
active family that can keep him worn out both mentally and physically!
He would love a fenced in yard as he needs some work with recall (he
gets distracted easily) and he would love a dog friend to keep him
entertained. He can be too rough with young children and so he needs a
family without children or a family with teens.
Rosco is up to date on his vaccinations and is on a heartworm and flea
preventative. He has been neutered. Roscoe is currently living in Cedar
Rapids.

"Dexter"
On television Dexter may be the name of a handsome serial killer, but our Dexter (Protege #0272) is simply a handsome sweetheart. He is a 1 1/2 year old black-tri. He's slightly underweight right now at 46 pounds, but he was a stray so it's likely that he had to skip a few meals. Dexter is very happy to be off the streets now. He loves to play with his foster siblings and all their toys. He is always up for a game of fetch with his foster parents. Actually he's always up to play a game with anyone who wants to play. Dexter also is good with the kitty that lives in his foster home. He seems to be very good with children as well. He loves to go for walks and does well on leash. When he is off-leash he also tends to stick close to his foster parents. He really enjoys car rides. It doesn't matter where you're going, but he'd love to ride with his family to the dog park to play with friends and enjoy the afternoon. He loves to meet new people, but he's a very good boy and doesn't jump on them. So far he only knows how to sit and come, but he is willing to learn anything his new family would like to teach him.
Dexter was not entirely housebroken when he first came into rescue, but he learned very fast and is no longer having accidents. Dexter does not like to be crated and can be destructive of a crate; however, he is completely fine when left home alone uncrated (he's been left for up to 8 hours without any problem) -- the only bad habit, as you can see from his photos, is that he likes to jump up on the table to watch out the window! At night he's allowed to sleep in his foster parents' bedroom in a doggie bed and he loves it.
If you're looking for a sweet, young Aussie, contact us to meet Dexter. He's ready to meet his new family soon!
Dexter is neutered, heartworm negative, current on shots, and on flea and heartworm preventative. He is currently fostered in Ottumwa, Iowa.
