"Red"

April 3rd Update!
RED HAS BEEN FOUND AND IS NOW...

MISSING IN LOUISVILLE KY--SUNDAY, FEB 24, 2008

Red, ARPH Tag #9793, went missing Sunday, February 24 in Louisville, KY. He was lost in the vicinity of Chenoweth and Shelbyville Rd, some distance from his new home. His new home was in the 1300 block of Highland Avenue, Louisville KY. He was just adopted on Friday and does not know his new home. His adopter is making every effort to locate him. Red is a very shy, undersocialized boy who was pulled from a breeding kennel. He is a red tri or sable. Because he is so shy/frightened, we are very concerned about him.. Red is wearing his collar with an ARPH ID tag. If you should find him, please call the toll free number on his tag 1-877-ARPH-779, or call Anne at 812-431-8876 or your local animal shelter

Say hello to Red. The first year of Red’s life was not so great. He was unwanted by his backyard breeder and released to ARPH. Red spent much of his young life living under a building completely unsocialized and frightened of everything. We feel he was abused as he has trust issues, but is getting much better.

"Molly"
Molly is a sweet, good looking blue merle female about 6 years young, a robust 61 pounds with one blue and one brown eye and docked tail. Molly walks well on leash, rides nicely in the car, gets along well with other dogs and has a calm personality, although she likes to have fun. She was said to be an outside farm dog, whose owner said she had worked cattle. Although judging from her weight and house manners, she may have spent more time as a house dog! Molly is turning out to be a wonderful dog, very quiet and completely trustworthy in the house. She loves to be petted and gets very excited when someone looks her way, making a cute "snork" sound and going into a play bow. Molly is spayed, UTD on shots and is heartworm negative.

"Emily"
Emily is a beautiful 1 year old Aussie who loves people. She weighs approximately 40 pounds. She is quite content laying next to you while you do your activities for the day and is ready for play time when she goes outside. Her favorite resting spot is on the bed at your feet when it's night time. Emily is a bit shy around other dogs at first and doesn't quite know what to make of them but once she gets used to another dog she will happily play. She is very uncertain about cats, however. She seems a bit curious of them at times and at others doesn't seem to care much for them. She plays well with children but does get a bit rough and would be best suited in a home without smaller children. Emily is house trained well, but when taken out on a leash is a bit of a brute force and needs additional training. She knows a few basic commands such as sit and lay down and is still working on more of them. She's a very smart girl!

For reasons that are unknown, Emmy was in a shelter with a loss of her left eye. It has been treated and closed and should pose no further risk to her. Although Emily only has one eye it DOES NOT affect her in anyway in normal activities. Emily is a great companion dog and is desperately in need of a forever home. Give this gorgeous girl a chance to steal your heart away.

Contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com or Jane at augiehills@yahoo.com to find out more about dear Emily.

"Spooky"
This handsome boy is Spooky, who is probably the sweetest dog we have ever fostered. He is a black tri, 18 months old, 52 pounds, neutered, up to date on shots, HW negative and on heartworm preventive. Spooky and his brother were rescued from a breeder who failed them by not socializing them and allowing some abuse to happen. Because of this he has a fear of new things and people, but has made amazing progress while in foster care. He now understands that humans are pretty cool and will relax and allow them to pet him, although hesitantly at first. He shows gentle interest towards toddlers, but active kids will startle him at first, especially if they are on the dreaded bicycles or skateboards! He is never snippy with them and enjoys petting as long as they move slowly with him.

Because he was with many other dogs in his prior home he is more comfortable with dogs than people. He is not afraid of even the biggest, grumpiest dog and makes quick friends with all, even the little ones, with no desire to chase them. He has had no contact with cats yet. Spooky was housetrained in a matter of days and has the run of the house, keeping mostly to his "safe spot", although he is starting to realize he likes attention and will seek you out for some quick petting. He goes in a crate willingly when needed, does not chew on things he shouldn’t and has learned to use his voice. He walks very nicely on leash, has good recall and stays close by when off leash, rides in a car well although with some drooling and likes boat rides. He is becoming more confident each day, has discovered toys and is learning how to play. Spooky has a bright future and with a guardian willing to work with him on his confidence and maybe a playmate or two, he will become a great companion.

"Greta"
Greta is about 3 years old, a spayed female weighing 33 pounds. She is an unusual color, probably best described as a red merle with a sable overlay and typical collie type markings. She has a full tail. She was picked up by Animal Control in Morehead, Kentucky with an older female believed to be her mother, who has since been adopted, and her character has really come out since being out from under mother's paw.

Greta is a very bright, sweet dog with a cheerful personality. She's gentle and friendly, gets along well with other dogs, but wants to chase cats. She's housebroken and learning to like her crate, walks on the leash and knows basic commands. She likes to take her foster mother's shoes out of the closet and bring them into the living room, but she doesn't chew on them, just seems to think it's funny. She has all the makings of a lovely, pleasant companion.

Greta has been waiting patiently for her forever home for over a year. Will you be the family that rewards her patience?

Contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com or Jane at augiehills@yahoo.com to make Greta your new family member.

"Chance"
Chance is a great loving guy at 43 pounds, neutered, gorgeous blue merle coat, approximately five years old and housebroken. Chance has bilateral retinal degeneration. He can see shadows and moving objects. There is no surgery or therapy to correct it. However, once he is familiar with his surroundings it doesn't slow him down, Chance is extremely intelligent. Within a couple of hours of arriving at the foster home he had mastered the stairs and the dog door, was exploring his one acre fenced lot and within a few days he was also responding to his new name. We are working on the normal commands, sit, come, etc. He loves attention and will stand and be loved on as long as you can do it. Given the "Chance" he will provide you with years of love and loyalty.

Chance is being fostered in the Louisville, Kentucky area. If you are interested in Chance, please contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com or Jane at augiehills@yahoo.com.

"Rabbit"
Rabbit is a one of a kind white Pit Bull with a few brindle spots. When she was rescued from the Baltimore City shelter she was around 6 months old. Rabbit had been starved almost to death and weighed only 17lbs. Her huge pink ears and appetite for fresh fruits and vegetables earned her the name Rabbit.

In the 6 months that she's been in her foster home Rabbit has gained more than 20lbs and has matured into a wonderful, kooky, energetic and playful dog. She loves the other dogs in her foster home but does have problems meeting and being comfortable around new dogs. Like many abused Pits she would be best in a home with experienced owners and no other animals.

Rabbit loves to run, chase balls and toys and will eat just about anything. Instead of biscuits we reward her with carrots, apples, pineapple, green beans and tomatoes. She's a great snuggler, is housebroken, crate trained and loves to ride in the car. She is alert, responsive and extremely trainable. Rabbit is just over a year old, is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and eager to be adopted.

"Jasper"
Jasper is a medium-large mixed breed, about 2.5 years old. He is well-trained (housebroken, sit, stay, down, etc.), good on a leash, great off-leash when on a trail, and very athletic – but not hyper. He has a bit of an aggressive streak when he gets uneasy (i.e. around people he does not like).

We recommend a home for him without children and with a fenced backyard. He is affectionate, quick to bond, and very smart. Contact Deborah at damusher@hotmail.com for adoptiong information!

"Nellie"
Nellie is the sweetest, quietest, cuddle bug ever! She is about 40 pounds and 7-8 years old. Nellie gives lots of kisses to show how grateful she is to be loved. She is still small enough to lay in your lap and she spends most of her day nearby being petted. She was found wandering on Loch Raven Blvd and was shivering in the cold due to her recent grooming. Her hair looks like it would be a curly coat when it grows back out.

Nellie seems to be housetrained and does just wonderful with the other dogs in the home (both big and small). Consider taking this wonderful girl into your home and contact Sally at 410-576-0481 for adoption information!

March 7th Update:
Nellie is missing - we are not sure if someone took her or if she was able to climb out of her fenced in yard (at the foster's house).

March 15th Update:
Nellie is still missing - Please keep an eye out for her.
