Kids: good, although he does like to nibble Energy Level: He’s a Siberian Husky puppy! He’s either going full-speed ahead or he’s asleep. Matty is just like any other Siberian puppy in most ways. He races around the yard, loves to play with his toys, adores pets and belly rubs, chews on everything he can get in his mouth, and wants to play, play, play! However, Matty could not use his left-front leg. It didn’t slow him down very much except on stairs and uneven ground. The leg could not be saved and needed to be amputated. Matty had surgery on May 16th at Valley Central Veterinary Referral Center. They gave us a generous discount, but the surgery and follow up visits will cost $900.00. Thanks to everyone who has donated, we have gathered almost half of that amount! Matty is adapting very quickly, and learning a little every day. He knows to sit for his meals and before he goes out the door. He is almost completely house-broken, and his crate training is coming along nicely. He loves people and other dogs, as long as the other dogs are tolerant of typical puppy behavior like jumping around and nibbling on their ears. He has shown no fears, and loves to talk in a lovely Siberian woo-woo to anyone within his sight. Matty will need continued care and training to adapt to life on three legs, but he’s more than ready for the adventure. He sees all the joy life has to offer him, and will bring that joy into the home that will be fortunate to call him their own. Leila was rescued from a shelter in Lancaster where she was scheduled to be put down. She was filthy, and looks much prettier now that she has been groomed! Since coming into rescue last week she has been crate trained and learned the commands kennel, wait, sit and paw. She takes treats very nicely. She would do best as an only dog or with a male who is not dominant. Leila is finishing up her treatment for Lyme disease before being spayed. Gender: male Age: 5 years old Color: white with beige streak down his back Eye Color: blue Cats: No Dogs: Okay with older dogs, not good with puppies or small dogs Kids: good with older kids Dakota's owners are older and are planning to move within the year. Dakota was their daughter's dog but she moved and left Dakota with them. Dakota is neutered and up to date on his vaccines. He has mild epilepsy that is controlled with medication. He does have a sensitive stomach, his owners think he is allergic to chicken. Otherwise he is a healthy boy. His owner says "Dakota loves attention and being outside. He will chase and try to catch birds and squirrels. He is usually in the back yard, he has not been on a leash very often. He can be very energetic. Loves the dog he has grown up with, but does not seem too fond of puppies or smaller dogs. He is very vocal and lets us know when he wants something - at times I feel like he is really talking to me." Dakota is not crate trained and is used to having his owners at home with him. He can sit and shake hands and lie down. Dakota is well behaved while being brushed. He is good in the car, but his owner says he likes to "yodel" while going on car rides.
