"Corinne"

|
Corinne is a seven year old shihtzu female that just lost her home because she nipped the baby. She has been living with five children. I suppose it was too much for her. I have not had any trouble with her here and I groomed her and cleaned her ears. She is a very calm, quiet girl and should make a good pet. She has been shaved down and her hair will grow back. She will need regular grooming. Right now, she is looking around and crying because she wants to go home but she is not wanted there any longer. So sad. She is housebroken.
If you can give Corinne a forever home, contact us at bonnwright@aol.com for an application. She is not good with children or smaller dogs. Corinne weighs about 12 lbs.

She will need to be groomed regularly.
She will be available for a donation of $250 to our medical fund and an approved application. Contact bonnwright@aol.com for an application to adopt Emeline.

"Rosie"
Rosie had only a few hours left when we found her in an animal control facility in southern Indiana. A nice person took her out of that place and took care of her until we could get her into a foster home.
Rosie is a very gentle soul - a sweet dog that just wants a little attention and affection. She follows me everywhere, and is never out of sight. She sat still for over an hour while I cut the mats out of her fur without complaint. She buries her head into me when I pet her. She truly deserves a new family of her own to love.
Rosie gets along great with other dogs, playing and wrestling, but knows when to quit. There are no food issues, her bowl is right next to my dog's and they don't bother each other at all. She has been very good with all of the children she's seen. She sits quietly and takes the pets gently. She is crate trained, but won't eat any treats in there. She's too busy waiting for someone to come back and let her out! She's an angel in the car. She lays down and once in a while she will sit up to look around. Rosie also walks beautifully on a leash, never pulling. She has a great recall - she comes running as soon as I call her.
We looked up Rosie's vet history and were happy to find she has been spayed and kept up to date on all her vaccinations and heartworm tests and prevention. She is only a year and a half old.
While she is an athletic dog, Rosie is definitely not a high drive dog. She does need plenty of exercise, but she's not a Border Collie that needs to be a sport or working dog. I do think she could be a good agility dog, because she has good focus and really wants to please.
We were told that Rosie might have some housebreaking issues, so we have been very careful about taking her outside often, something she has yet to ask for. When we take her out, she goes right away and we haven't had any problems. Rosie is a very sweet dog. All she wants in life is someone to love and to love her back!

"Wally"
|
Wally is maturing into a great dog, and he has worked hard to get to this point. We are just finishing an 8-week basic manners class, and he has been the star pupil as far as commands go. The value of the class for Wally was in learning how to feel comfortable in a large pack. We think he is about 11 months old now, and he weighs 33 lbs.
Wally seems to view children as simply more humans put on earth for the purpose of playing fetch with him. However, he's always moving at top speed so he must be carefully monitored around small children so he doesn't collide with them! He accidentally knocked my 49 lb. Border Collie off her feet when they were playing Frisbee, and she has refused to play Frisbee with him ever since.
He walks perfectly using a Gentle Leader; not using the Gentle Leader will still take work - he pulls a little. His recall while on a long lead is good.
Wally is an affectionate, spirited, intelligent dog who needs a human who understands the Border Collie drive and can offer him a lot of mental and physical exercise. He needs to understand what is expected of him, and he needs to know where he stands in the pack. A lot of our problems in the beginning disappeared when he was taught where he fit into our pack. That allowed him to relax his instinct to control every situation, and focus on learning the things that a puppy needs to learn.

"Sally"
|
Do you love to pet dogs? Would you like for me to just place my head in your lap and never leave your side? Then I am the girl for you!! I am a 2 year old female who loves nothing more than to be petted and loved. I even like for my foster mom's kids to pet me and will roll over on my back so that they can scratch my belly. My foster mom thinks that I might be housebroken, but she tells me that she's not so sure of that yet. My foster mom also doesn't know yet how I would be with other dogs since she has had to keep me crated because of my recent treatment for heartworms. I don't like to be kept outside by myself though and will scratch at the door until someone lets me back in. I just don't like to be my myself. I will follow you everywhere and when you sit down, I will either lay down by your feet or place my head in your lap while you pet me.
Sally is most likely a Border Collie mix. Although she looks very much like a Border Collie, she is a little larger than most. She also possesses several traits common to the Great Pyrenees, including double rear dew claws. It's possible she has a little Great Pyrenees in her blood.
Sally came to us via Project Hope in southern IL. The people that brought her in said she had been dumped with another female, Sadie, in a very rural area.
Sally is very sweet and generally calm. She is spayed, current on vaccines and has recently been treated for heartworms.

"Sadie"
|
Sadie came into rescue on July 27th. She is a large dog, measuring in at about 23" at the withers. She came to us via Project Hope in southern Illinois. The people that brought her in said she had been dumped with another female, Sally, in a very rural area where they found them. Sadie was caring for 10 puppies at the time!!!
Sadie is most likely a Border Collie mix. Although she looks very much like a Border Collie, she possesses several traits common to the Great Pyrenees, including double rear dew claws. Her ear set isn't quite BC-like either.
Sadie is an alert dog. She alerts us to anything that she sees! (Another GP trait!) Unfortunately, that can get a bit annoying. Usually though, once she gets used to something, she doesn't tend to bark as much. But, she ALWAYS lets us know that the critters are out and about after dark. She certainly doesn't like it when the coyotes howl!
Sadie is a generally calm dog. She is not dog aggressive and is actually a bit submissive, although she will protect a dog bone if another dog comes near. She doesn't seem to be food aggressive with people. She is not particularly sensitive to touch. She'll let you mess with her feet. She is very loving and likes attention, but isn't obnoxious about it. Her only bad habits so far are digging and barking. She barks more in the evenings than she seems to during the day.
Sadie is getting better at entering her crate at night, although she still needs a little help. She doesn't get excited when my 18 month old runs and screams. She just exhibited her version of first BC crouch on the 10th. I had not seen any herding tendencies until then. There happened to be a cat on the other side of the fence. She was watching it and ran toward it, but had no intentions of hurting it. I think she was just playing. She loves being outside, but is not too fond of the crate. She enters with lots of help, but doesn't resist too much once she's in.

"Dusty"
|
Dusty is a 3 1/2 year old Border Collie. He is a wonderful boy! There isn't anything wrong with him that a little obedience training wouldn't fix. He is a very soft dog and takes very well to corrections. He is very well house trained, can go 10-12 hours without an accident. He crates like a dream with only voice command and then turns around and licks your hand as you latch the door.
The trainer that evaluated him said he had great bite inhibition and was a very forgiving dog. He can be handled everywhere without a problem, he did fantastic at his grooming appointment. She said she could certainly see him as a family dog even though he did not have children in his former home. She called him a smart dog, mellow and easily trained.
Dusty is not an in your face kissy dog, but he does give sweet kisses when you groom him or when he does come over for pets. He has not done any destructive chewing, loves the little wading pool to play in, and loves playing frisbee and ball. He has an amazing leap and he just springs up in the air at 45 pounds, he is very, very lean. I could easily see him doing agility, fly ball anything to challenge this boy and keep him active. He settles beautifully if no one is around to entertain him in the yard after he gets done cooling off in the pool. He is not a barker, although he will bark at strangers. He walks fairly well but will pull on the leash but corrects easy, traffic does not bother him or other dogs when out walking. He will make some lucky family a great companion and fun addition to their family.

"Annabelle"
|
Annabelle is a very energetic and intelligent seven month old red and white BC who came to us via a kill shelter in Tennessee.
Annabelle loves to run and play, although she doesn't understand how to play with toys or tennis balls at this point. She does love to get hugs and pats and likes to be as close to you as she can get. Annabelle prefers to be in the same room with you so she can be part of what's going on. She's great with other dogs and is learning how to play and what her place in the pack is. She rides wonderfully in a car and likes to watch traffic go by. She's quiet, but assertive and comes to her name.
Annabelle isn't housebroken at this point, but we are working on it, as smart and attentive as she is, it won't take any time at all. She loads into her crate with assistance and apparently doesn't know any commands at this point either...but we're working on it.
Annabelle is scheduled to be spayed and checked for heartworms next week.
