"Spring"
|
"Spring" Old foggy eyed Spring! She came as a stray and yes, she has a few habits that will make her a little difficult to place in a home. She isn't too keen on being house trained, prefers to stay in the living room where life is cozy, warm and secure. Perhaps her days as a stray make her a little too nervous to leave her sanctuary. In a home of her own, where there is no competition for attention, she just might regain her belief in humans and at 10 years old or older, she certainly has earned the right to a good, warm loving home for her twilight years. Have a lap needing a sweet little old gal to keep you content? Spring may be the one to fill that need.

"Misty"
|
"Misty" Perpetual motion, that is Misty (born 6-1-00). On the go, happy all the time, and just waiting for the right home. Preferably one that understands the energy of a Pom!
Misty tries hard to learn house rules, but in her exuberance, well, sometimes she forgets and then OOPS, we have a puddle on the floor. With enough time and patience, Misty will learn that the outside is for potty time, and the house is for bouncing off the walls!!!

"Prince"
|
"Prince" Handsome Prince (born 6-15-99), looking for a home that will appreciate his little squeaker. He is a happy little boy and yes, he does squeak in his quest for someone to talk to.
Prince knows how to use a dog door, but would really prefer to be inside with a loving human so he could squeak in contentment.

"Noki"
|
"Noki (Pinocchio)" is a 4 year old, neutered, shots current, 17 pound "tweenie" Dachshund with freshly cleaned teeth. He is house, crate and dog door trained as well. He is also shy and submissive until he is used to you so won't be placed in a home with kids due to his shyness.
Noki is a happy dog, loves to sit in your lap, snuggle and be a great companion. Are you looking for a sweet, lovable little lap dog? He is looking for you too!

"Jaki"
|
Well, how does one refuse this regal little fellow? Can't be very easy! Stout in his own small way, with a stout attitude to take whatever life throws at him. One thing he will not take in stride is small kids, and to that end, our Jaki deserves and needs to have a youngster free home. Both for his safety & the kids!
Jaki is a 3.5 year old, neutered, shots current, house, crate and dog door trained Dachshund. He chases cats but enjoys the game, GWD and kids over 10. He is just too active and strong for kids younger than 10.

"Tigger and Chrissi"
|
"Tigger (left) and Chrissi (right)" The heavyweight match of the century, Chrissi on the right, weighs in at 4.5 pound, Tigger hits the scales at 10 pounds. Both competitors have one thing in mind: to lay claim to your lap. If life dealt them both a raw deal in the past, the future can only hold grand things for them. Let these champs win the round with you as their prize.
Both dogs are special needs, having to work through things from the past. A fenced yard will be a must in order keep them from running away, and Miss Chrissi has an aversion to collars and leashes. She isn't telling what happened, so we must work around her silence and her fear.
Does it sound like we want these two to go together? Oops, guilty as charged! They came together, they love each other and we hope they will get to live the remainder of their lives together.
Both dogs are altered, up to date on shots, have had dentals and are house, dog door and crate trained.

"Becca"
Becca is a gorgeous blonde about 5 years old who comes to us from the parish animal shelter in Abita Springs. She is already spayed, heartworm-negative, and she loves kids. She is playful and loves to pick up socks.
We received Becca on June 12. She is slightly chubby at 77 lbs. Becca can escape from crates by pulling the door into the crate and bending the vertical hinge rod. She has difficulty differentiating between allowable chew toys and items such as shoes, pillows, and dish towels. She craves attention and will shove herself between a human and any other dog present. She has strong alpha tendencies, and a firm tone of voice is necessary to set limits with her and to prevent her getting too mouthy. Nonetheless, she has obviously experienced some obedience training in the past, as she will sit, shake and down on cue.
Becca starts obedience training on September 11. She has already improved immensely in her behavior since she entered her current foster situation.

"Jimbo"
Jeanne wrote about picking up an old dog from Waveland, "Some things the girl at the vet told me: He's been bathed with special shampoo several times prior to his neutering...trying to help his skin condition which they attributed to severe flea infestation. He needs to get his neutering stitches removed in 5-7 days. He's HW-positive. His eyes get lots of what I call 'eye boogers' which she said weren't caused by any kind of infection--just the way he is. He had lots of hookworms, and they gave him medicine that should have taken care of it. Some of my observations for what they're worth: He rode great in the Jeep with me and wasn't in a crate. He jumped in the Jeep all by himself. He is happy and mellow despite how awful he looks...I stopped to get gas and another time to get a Coke, and both times as I approached the Jeep, I could hear this 'thunk, thunk, thunk' coming from inside the Jeep. He was wagging his tail and excited to see me and he'd only just met me. God only knows how long he lived his life without so much as a pat on the head. He loves petting as most dogs do. He didn't bark at the vet's (although every dog around him was barking) or while in the car, or when with the other dogs. He and the other 2 male dogs that met us (Julie's Quinn and Jim & Charley's intake, Rusty) growled at each other a little, probably, as Jim said, because they're all very recently neutered. None of them growled at sweet little Didi, although the Waveland boy did try to mount her (ugh!) unsuccessfully. Good luck with him. I think he will become a beautiful dog. It always amazes me how these dogs can maintain such good spirits despite the hell they've been through. I wish I were that strong! Thanks a million from the bottom of my heart! Jeanne."
Kennelmaster Richard started calling him Jimbo after Jim Butts, and noted that the dog has blood in his urine and slight diarrhea.
"Oh, Gloria, I think you'd love this boy! He's handsome despite the lack of teeth and thin coat and scabby skin. He is stinky, but he's such a happy boy. That tail wagging just melted my heart! Once the group had all arrived and we were all standing around talking, I was scratching him on the head and when I stopped, he nudged me asking for more! Just like a Golden! I hope he makes it through HW treatment. Jim said he'd need to be fattened up first. I'm just worried about how bad his heartworms are. No telling when, if ever, he last had a Heartguard tablet."
November 14, 2002 Update: Good news! The second vet believes that Jimbo's failure to gain weight is probably all traceable to his heartworm disease. We are attempting an unorthodox, slow-and-easy eradication of Jimbo's heartworms, to begin on November 16. Because Jimbo is a senior, his adoption fee is reduced.
February Update: Oh my, this dog is looking gorgeous--it's hard to believe he's the same boy! He is tall and his coat is a lovely dark blond. You will not believe how fine he looks today! We've thought he was between 8 and 10; it seems as if he's growing younger since he is so playful and lively.
May Update: Jimbo has regained the weight he lost, and is deemed well enough to fly if his new family is far away. He now weighs 76 lbs.
